Special Skills: First Aid (Level 1)

Personal History: I grew up in Calgary, AB so there will always be a part of me that loves country music and two-stepping.  I have been singing since I could talk and began piano lessons at age 5.  Growing up I belonged to choirs and performing groups  and chose to continue with my music at university.  I learned about music therapy while doing my degree and spent some time with music therapists in Halifax.  I now live in Vancouver, where I applied to the Capilano MT program and completed my degree.  I love hiking and biking and being outside as well as making music with family and friends.

Professional History:  I have worked with people throughout my life. I taught music for 6 years to students from 5 to 75, have worked as a nanny for young children, and as a personal care aide for adults with disabilities. All of my work informs who I am as a music therapist. Throughout University, my clinical experience led me to working with seniors in long term care, an elementary school working with kids, and a treatment centre for women with addictions. Ive recently completed my 1000 hour internship that was split between two sites. At the German Canadian Care Home I ran groups in Special Care, Long-Term Care, and Extended Care. I also started a weekly songwriting group and visited individuals. My second internship site was the Provincial Assessment Centre. It is a centre for youth and adults with developmental delay and concurrent mental health diagnoses. I ran weekly groups as well as worked with individuals creating music projects and learning different music skills.

Work Philosophy: I believe in being inclusive to all and approach my work with compassion.  I love music, but i love sharing it with others even more.  Music can bring out the best in people and allows for a real connection with yourself and others that doesn’t always need words.

Personal Life Philosophy:  Always try to stretch and grow a little each day.
