Personal History: I am Metis woman, who was unaware of her heritage until I was 20 years old. My culture had been ‘educated’ out of my grandmother and she refused to discuss this part of her life. I spent a good portion of my life not knowing how I fit in the world as I struggled with this missing piece of my story. I grew up in Coquitlam, BC and was raised by a single mother. I have had an adventurous life and lived in many different communities in BC from as far north as Vanderhoof, east to Fernie, west to Victoria and now call Coquitlam my home again. I spent 3 months in Anyang, Henan, China researching the Shang Dynasty. I lived in New Zealand for 5 years.

I most recently lived in Kelowna, where I was inspired to change my life. In Kelowna I found the gift of sobriety and have been maintaining my life in recovery for nearly 8 years by attending meetings and speaking openly about my past addictions. It was through these conversation that I was inspired, by my sister, to pursue a career in Music Therapy.

Professional History: I worked as a consulting archaeologist throughout BC where I was privileged to have elders share knowledge of the land with me for nearly 10 years. While in New Zealand, I was equally privileged to work with those of Maori descent and learn the knowledge from that land as well. As a recovering addict I have 8 years of working with this population prior to obtaining my BMT. I currently work in LTC doing both group and one-to-one. I also work in the DTES in housing where I am on the front line meeting people dealing with grief and trauma.

Work Philosophy: I am very hands on therapist. I enjoy working one-to-one with individuals from an improvisational modality. In groups, I enjoy being part of the group and working with individuals to empower them to be who they are.

Personal Life Philosophy: The grass will always be greener on the other side, so why not enjoy the yellow!
