Personal History: I was born and raised in Coquitlam, BC and was always involved in different creative endeavours. As a child I loved to write stories and songs, perform in musical theatre shows, and play the piano. I attended Douglas College in 2013 with a piano concentration, while studying voice secondarily.
While in college, I formed a pop-folk band and have been songwriting and performing at live music venues around Vancouver ever since. When I thought about my career path, I considered my passion for music and how I wanted to make meaningful differences in others’ lives. When I heard about music therapy it seemed like the perfect fit for me.
Professional History: Some of my related work experience includes working as an early childhood music educator, private music instructor, and specialized music teacher for typical and atypically developed children. As well, I have music therapy practicum experience working with children, adults with mental health challenges, and seniors in assisted living and complex care.
Work Philosophy: My music therapy practice is eclectic and largely informed by humanism. I also draw from behavioural and cognitive models of therapy. My practice is client-centred, in which the clients’ goals, needs, and preferences are always considered and valued. My style of music therapy is collaborative and my goal is to facilitate meaningful interaction, connection, growth and learning.
Personal Life Philosophy: I strive to live every day with honesty, love, respect, and understanding for myself and others.
